Cornell University ranked No. 18 out of 800 institutions worldwide, up from No. 19 last year, according to the 2015-16 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings published Sept. 30 by The Times of London.

Cornell ranks 13th out of 147 U.S. universities that made the list. Europe has 343 universities in the top 800. Institutions from 70 countries, 29 more than last year, feature in this year’s rankings, with countries including Indonesia, Bangladesh and Kenya being represented for the first time.

THE rankings include six subject-specific tables that outline the top 100 universities in the world in the fields of arts and humanities; clinical, pre-clinical and health; engineering and technology; life sciences; physical sciences; and social sciences.

Cornell scored highest on citations (research influence), research (volume, income and reputation), teaching (the learning environment) and international outlook (staff, students and research).
