Engineering grad programs rank in top 10 in U.S. News

Eight graduate engineering areas at Cornell are ranked in the top 10 in U.S. News and World Report’s 2016 “Best Graduate Schools” report, released March 10. Cornell Law School and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management also earned rankings comparable to those in last year’s U.S. News report.

The engineering categories where Cornell ranks in the top 10 are: biological/agricultural engineering, No. 6; materials science, mechanical engineering and industrial/manufacturing/systems engineering, all at No. 8; civil engineering and computer engineering, No. 9; and environmental/environmental health engineering and electrical/electronic/communications engineering, No. 10. The fields are ranked by engineering school department heads.

“We are proud that our graduate programs in engineering continue to be highly ranked by U.S. News and World Report,” said Senior Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School Barbara A. Knuth. “This recognition is a testament to the intellectual excellence, creativity and commitment of our faculty, students, alumni and leadership.”

As in last year’s survey, engineering at Cornell was ranked 13th overall by U.S. News.

Cornell Law School also ranked 13th overall for the second consecutive year and again was recognized among the most diverse law schools. Among specialty programs, Cornell’s international law program was ranked 15th.

Johnson was ranked 16th overall among business schools, up a notch from last year. Its executive MBA program was ranked 12th in a survey of business school deans and MBA program directors.

Among medical schools, Weill Cornell Medical College was ranked 18th in research, and 49th in primary care.

U.S. News surveys graduate programs in engineering, law, business, medicine and education annually. Data from peer assessment in other areas is collected on a rotating basis. Fine arts, library and information studies, public affairs, science, social sciences and humanities programs were not ranked this year.
